Links to blindness-related Info & Services
The Screen Magnifiers Homepage
This is a cool place where you can test-drive lots of adaptive software goodies. In addition to programs such as ZoomText and Big Shot, they have OCR, (scanner) software, and speech-related downloads. You can try them at $0 cost. Many of these trial products can be used for 30 days.
The Seeing Eye
Premiere Dog Guide School, supplying the Caddilac of guide dogs. Us Seeing Eye grads are bioused, but we can afford to be! They have a really comprehensive and very KEWL interactive website.
Check'm out!
Humanware.
For all you techno-cripples like myself, this is the place to be! I've purchased one of their products and know people who use their products. You should check out the snazzy new electronic gadgets they have out now. It's enough to give you techno-lust. You low-vision folks especially! They've got a PORTABLE CCTV that's actually portable.
CARE Ministries:
This is an organization that provides materials that are Christian-based as well as other support and information resources for people who are blind
The American Coucil of the Blind
This is an information, support and advocacy organization. They have a lot of neat stuff on their websitei including a radio station that showcases music produced by blind musicians. One thing I like especially is that they air music of virtually eveyr genre, including Christian-oriented music. Check-em out!

Tell Us Your Story.com
This is a website containing the writings of many people living with various disabilities. There are people representing all walks of life and LOTS of interesting reading. They've even published some of my stuff. Though they are not currently adding stories, it's still a great site.
Mothers From Hell
This is a support info and advocacy E-group mainly comprised of moms raising children who have disabilities. There's lots of humor and good info at this site.
Brailleit.com:
A cool place to get just about anything transcribed into Braille including Braille-oriented gifts.
Goodwill Industries
Here's an orginazion that has, in my opinion, gotten a lot of bad press. I can assure you that most of the negative things said about them are untrue. I got a lot of really helpful computer training there and they helped me secure a professional position at AT&T. They've got great thriftstores too. I shop there a lot and my friends can't believe my clothes are second-hand. They sell the donations they collect at these stores and use the proceeds to fund their various employment-related programs.

Greg's Japanese Auto
my cousins' company, they are very reliable, if their rapid growth is any indication. I'm really proud of them.
If you live in the Puget Sound area and drive a Japanese car, I highly recommend you check them out. My husband has been taking his Honda there since 1994.
F.W. Hastings House
Bed & Breakfast
A.K.A the Old Consulate Inn,
This Victorian mansion is a terrific place to visit on your honeymoon or anniversary. They are very dog-guide friendly, the accommodations are lovely and the breakfast is to die for. They also have snacks and hot beverages set out in the evening and can make arrangements to serve supper at additional cost. It's within a mile of some awesome shopping and restaurants. Port Townsend, located on the Puget Sound, is one of those old, quaint beach towns. If you're in Washington state, it is worth the drive.
Canon Beach Christian
Conference Center
This should probably be in the ministry links category, but I wanted to include it here as a family-oriented place to visit. Located on the Oregon coast, this is a wonderful place for Mom especially because accommodations include two meals per day. There's a wealth of special activities for kids so that the grown-ups can go shopping. The center is right on the beach and shopping is within walking distance. The rooms available include family suites and the prices are the same as a mid-priced motel. There are hotel-style and cabin-style rooms available and the grounds are wheelchair-accommodated. They are VERY dog-guide-friendly.
Reservations must be made and paid for in advance and the fee is non-refundable. If you don't mind planning ahead, this is the makings of an awesome vacation
The Old Cannery
If you wanna O.D. on furniture, THIS is the place to go.
You can killl an entire afternoon just looking at the furniture. This is the most enjoyable furniture store in the world--Well, around here anyway. They sell lots of pieces built by local craftsmen. There's an endless variety of really cool stuff you won't see anywhere else--everything from Victorian to Biker-leather glider rockers--complete with fringe, perfect for your biker Grandma.
The prices are VERY reasonable for the quality. I once bought a beautifully-detailed Queen Ann sofa table there for $120. They were almost $300 everywhere else. You won't see ANY particle board here. You will see a lot of oak.
They also have a gift and candy shop. Even your kids will like this place but don't go there when you're pressed for time. You'll want to se EVRYTHING.

eBay,
THE VIRTUAL GARAGE SALE!
Attention all Thriftstore Junkies!!
Go thrift-shopping without leaving that $2 chair you bought at the Goodwill store. You name it, they usually have it!
www.movingturtle.com/dallas.htm
One of my favorite personalities! Dallas McKennon is one of the most talented people I've met. I had the proveledge of meeting him back in 1982 when he performed for us at a fundraiser. He's done a miriad of voices from "Archie" to the various dogs on the original "101 Dalmations" to Kelloggs "Tony the Tiger." He also does some live acting which is worth going to watch. As far as I know, he's still alive, though he is really getting up there in years.
He was hired to play his Mountain Man character at a United Way banquet. His appearance was so convincing that the secutiry guard thought he was a vagrant and tried to throw him out of the building. If you type his name in your search engine, you'll come up with a ton of stuff that he's done over the years.
Chemical Light Company
This is a GREAT place to order glowing party supplies. They have some of the best prices I've seen. These guys are one of the companies that sell those neon necklaces you may have seen at a fair or parade.
I ordered some for the kids to play with during our annual camping trip. It was the first year I can remember in the 4 years I've been directing camp that we never lost sight of the kids. They all put their glow necklaces on their heads.
This company also sells fiber-optic lights that resemble flashlights except that the bulb is covered with fibers that light up in various colors at the tips. The adults loved these.
Gumbo Jazz
This is a wonderful pair of tin-pan alley performers. For all you Seattlites, you will often find them at the Pike Place Market doing some really funky music that just about everybody enjoys, if the gathering crowds are any indication. They've been around for 20 years or more.
They always have an array of hand-held novelty instruments such as squeaker horns which they usually pass out to the children for participation in one of the songs. The guy reminde me a little of Arlo Guthry.

This little website is about one awesome little girl. Kassandra Oakvath and her family were recently featured on ABCs "Extreme Makeover Home Edition".
She is an 8-year-old cancer survivor who is making and selling necklaces to raise money for cancer research. While she was in the hospital, she was depressed by the drag surroundings. After enduring months in that hospital, she set out on a mission to get the ward where she stayed a face lift. She enlisted the help of ABC, who sent out a team of Disney artists to paint colorful murals there. They also brought in a lot of bright new furniture and toys.
AWESOME!
...which brings me to my next link:
Extreme Makeover Home Edition
I don't generally go in for most so-called "reality TV shows." Most of them just exploit people. This one is different. Despite the occasional four-letter word, it's still a good family show. They have really showcased the gift of giving by building or rennovating homes for needy families. A lot of Christians could take a lesson or two in giving from this program. Here at home, we refer to this show as "Tear-Jerk TV." That is because by the end of the show, the audience and the building team are both crying.
You will find info on this show at:

Hey! Someone wrote an article about me! If I wasn't so humble about it, I'd give the details here. Instead, I thinkI'll just include the link.

Temple Baptist Church
Our home church, If you live in the Tacoma area and don't have a home church, I'd encourage you to check this one out. People are genuinely friendly and God's word is taught fiathfully and made applicable to modern life. The worship music is beautiful and contemporary and we just implimented a post-service small-group discussion about that day's sermon. It really helps me remember what the Pastor talked about last week.
Family Renewal Shelter
This is an absolutely wonderful organization to which I owe my life. Unlike many domestic violence agencies, this one is non-feminist and isn't ""anti-Men."
They do not, however, counsel women to go back to their abusers and they are completely protection-oriented.
It is headed by a man, who is a terriffic role-model for the boys who live in the shelter. He and other staff serve on the Domestic Violence Response Team in conjunciton with local police.
They provide counseling, lodging and support groups. advocacy and a crisis hotline. This is a faith-based organization in an atmosphere of love and acceptance.
I've included this link because as near as I can tell, there are a lot of visually-impaired people who find themselves in abusive or controlling relationships.

The Beaverton Foursquare Church.
I attended this church while living in the Portland OR. area for about 4 years. It's a great fellowship whose uniqueness can only be appreciated in person. There is something indescribable. I think it's just a pervasive manifestation of God's love. They also have many practical ministries--especially for young people.
The Fairview Church
I basically grew up in this very loving fellowship. It's a great church with contemporary worship. This church was established in another location around 1910, moving to the present location during the 80s. They also have a wonderful Christian school.

KK Christian Retreat Center
This is a wonderful place to take the family or retreat group. They have camp sites and lodge accomidations. The food is great too!.
The Christian Research Institute;
Home of the "Bible Answer Man." Thisis an organization that really does its homework to ensure that all information is accurate and correct according to Biblical standards.

This is an organization that provides materials that are Christian-based as well as other support and information resources for people who are blind
Focus On The Family
Focus on the Family was founded by James Dobson, a Christian psychologist who was a veteran faculty member at U.S.C. School Of Medicine before beginning his ministry in 1977. Focus provides phone counselors, literature and entertainment for people of all ages. They have several magazines available at no cost. They also have various radio boradcasts, including their hallmark broadcast titled "Focus On The Family." On this daily broadcast, Dr. Dobson is often featured, providing family-oriented teaching. Interviews with specialists on a wide variety of subjects including relationship issues, raising children, dealing with abuse and supporting and encouraging pastors.
They also have a show called "Adventures In Oddysy", a radio drama format the whole family will like as well as "Focus On The Family Radio Theatre" where they reinact stories such as "LIttle Women", Dickens "A Christmas Carol", and other favorite classics. Their dramas are absolutely state-of-the-art. You can hear any of these broadcasts online. They also have an online bookstore.
Duncan Holmes
This is a new friend who has a unique music ministry, especially to kids. He uses a lot of humor in his music and speaking. Duncan is also blind and is a solid Christian.

BARRY MCGUIRE.COM
If you're familiar with Barry Mcguire and his ministry, you MUST check out this page. Barry wrote and sang the 1965 hit, "Eve of distruction" and sang with "The New Christy Minstrals." Since he acceptd Christ in the late 1960s, he's been performing Contemporary christian Music. He was a part of the original "Jesue music" phenomanon. This site has audobiragaphical info, pictures and some great blogs.

Palmer Alaska,
My Birthplace!
http://www.ilovealaska.com/alaska/Palmer
This list is always growing. Check back often.
The Audio Bible.com
How coll is this???
Yes ladies and gentlemen. they've got the Bible online and you can listen to it free of charge. It displays the test to compliment the audio. It is the Kiing James version and it requires RealPlayer, which I found fairly easy to download.
(I don't list anything on my links page that I find difficult to use or confusing.)
If you wish, you can also purchase this Bible on CD-ROM. It comes with reference and concordance features and sells for around $75, a bargain if you ask me.
Angel Realm
Although some of the postings on this testimonial site aren't what I would consider doctrinally-sound, but others are. All entries are stories about angelic encounters
